"Improbabile" for Trombone and Harp, by Ricardo Pereira
Descriptions
Purchase (printed and digital)"Improbabile is in four movements, titled "L'Alba," "Lontano," "Entre um Tango e uma Valsa," and "Tarantella" lasting a total of about sixteen minutes. Most of the trombone part is in tenor clef, and the player needs a firm command of soft dynamics in the high register, as well as control of the low and high register.
The "L'Alba" has a lyrical melody on the trombone part which will evolve as the dawn-inspired "awakening" until it culminates in the splendor represented by the increased intensity and climax of this movement. The second movement "Lontano" it's a distance analogy, is peaceful and relaxed, where the instruments are doing some effects distorting the real tones and provoking the distance sensation. In the beginning and again at the very end the trombonist playing with a Harmon mute, held closed, for the same effect. The third movement is titled "Entre um Tango e uma Valsa," which resembles the famous Argentine Tango, as well the French waltz. Much of the melodic material alternates/crosses between the performers as well. The "Tarantella" has a jaunty main theme, inspired in the vivacity of the Sicilian song, with energetic rhythms and mixed measures. Throughout the piece, the harp is very much an equal partner with the trombone instead of merely an accompanying presence."The duration is approximately 16:00 minutes.
